Carson Farmers Market FAQs

Explore our list of commonly asked questions to enhance your visit to Carson Farmers Market.
What are the operating hours of Carson Farmers Market?

The market is open Saturdays from 8:30 am to 1 pm, June through September.

Where is Carson Farmers Market located?
You can find us in the heart of Carson City, at the Mills Park Marv Teixiera Pavilion

1111 E. William St. Carson City Nevada.

Is the market outdoor?

We’re primarily an open-air venue located both outside and under a pavilion, offering both sunny and shaded areas. We provide free water to all our visitors. Bring chairs, a blanket, sun hats and sunscreen, and make yourself comfortable during your visit!

Why aren't there more types of produce?

We understand your desire for a wider variety of produce at our market, and we’re always looking for ways to expand our selection. However, there are a couple of factors that limit what we can offer:

  1. Seasonality: We are committed to providing the freshest, highest-quality produce, which means that everything at our market must be in season during our operating months.
  2. Regional Growing Conditions: Our dedicated Nevada and Northern California farmers grow what thrives in our local climate. This means that the types of produce we offer are limited to what can be successfully grown in these regions.

Due to these seasonal and regional constraints, we are unable to offer certain items like tropical fruits (pineapples, bananas, coconuts), citrus fruits (lemons, limes), and some vegetables (asparagus, blueberries) at our market.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to explore ways to diversify our produce selection within the limits of our growing conditions.

Why isn't there a winter market?

We don’t host the Carson Farmers Market during the winter months due to Nevada’s unique agricultural cycle. Our region has a short growing season, which makes it challenging for local farmers to sustainably grow and harvest produce during the colder months. By focusing our market operations outside of winter, we ensure that we can offer you the freshest, most abundant local produce when it’s at its best.

Can we have more food trucks, local food tea and coffee vendors?

We would love to expand our selection of food vendors, including food trucks, local foods, and beverage providers. However, many restaurant and food truck owners are currently facing staffing challenges, which can limit their ability to participate in our market.

This season, some of our existing vendors are transitioning to food trucks, which may impact the number of available truck spots. But don’t worry, we still have ample space for tented food vendors!

If you know of any local businesses that might be interested in joining our market community, please let us know. We’d be thrilled to reach out and invite them to be a part of our growing family of vendors.

Can we have more baked goods or gluten-free options at the market?

We appreciate your interest in expanding our baked goods selection! We currently host six vendors who offer a wide variety of baked treats. However, we’re always open to growing our offerings, especially if there’s something specific you’d like to see. Please feel free to share your suggestions with us!

We are also actively seeking gluten-free vendors to join our market. If you know of any local gluten-free bakers who might be interested, please encourage them to apply. We’d be thrilled to include more gluten-free options for our customers.

Your input is invaluable in shaping our market’s offerings, so keep the ideas coming!

Are pets allowed at the market?

No, we know it’s an outdoor market, but due to our City Health Department, the only animals allowed at our market are registered service animals. READ THE PET POLICY

Are there restrooms at the market?

Yes, we have clean restrooms are inside the pavilion area of the market.

Is Handicap Parking Available?

Yes, we are committed to accessibility for all our visitors. We offer more than six designated handicapped parking spots, exceeding the minimum legal requirements. If you have specific needs or questions about our parking facilities, please feel free to contact us.

Why aren't there only Nevada farmers at our market?

Our market proudly features a mix of Nevada and California farmers to ensure you have access to a wide variety of fresh produce. Nevada’s unique climate and growing conditions can make it challenging for local farmers to grow certain types of fruits and vegetables, such as peaches, nectarines, nuts, berries, and artichokes.

By welcoming California farmers to our market, we’re able to offer you a more diverse selection of produce throughout the season. Towards the end of the market season, you may even find apples, pears, oranges and pomegranates, thanks to the broader growing capabilities of our California partners.

Our goal is to provide you with a one-stop-shop for all your fresh fruit and veggie needs, minimizing your trips to the grocery store and ensuring you have access to the best produce available.

How do you decide when to add more farmers to the market?

We deeply value our Nevada farmers and strive to create an environment where each vendor can thrive. To achieve this, we carefully manage the number of farmers at our market to ensure a balance between variety and healthy competition.

We keep a close eye on sales trends and take note if farmers are consistently going home with unsold produce. While occasional surplus is normal, regular unsold goods indicate that the market is at capacity and adding more farmers may not be beneficial.

Our goal is to support our farmers’ success and grow the market in step with increasing consumer demand. We will consider welcoming additional farmers when there is a clear need for their products. This approach helps prevent oversaturation and ensures a sustainable, thriving market for all.

Why aren't there more arts and crafts vendors?

We’re proud to have increased our arts and crafts vendors over the years. However, as a farmers market, our priority remains on agricultural producers. We aim to balance the number of artisans with producers. Only unique artisans not currently represented at our market may be considered for addition in future seasons.

Where did the kid-friendly vendors go?

We truly value the excitement and enjoyment that kid-friendly booths bring to our market. In previous years, these activities were made possible by the dedication of volunteers. However, we’ve encountered difficulties finding volunteers who can commit to being present every weekend throughout the summer.
If you or someone you know would be interested in hosting fun activities for children, such as face painting, arts and crafts, or educational games, we would love to hear from you! Please get in touch with us, as we’re enthusiastic about bringing back more engaging options for our younger visitors.
With your help and involvement, we can create an even more welcoming and entertaining environment for families at our market.

What activities can we enjoy at the market?

Our market is more than just a place to shop – it’s a destination for a full day of fun! Here are some activities you can enjoy:

Active Adventures: Bring your skateboards or bikes to ride at the nearby skate park, or pack your sports equipment for a game of soccer, football, volleyball or frisbee on the sprawling grassy areas.
